"Being an artist growing up, I learned to be patient when creating something beautiful and I take pleasure in the process."

Congratulations to Masha Es, our Lash Artist of the Month! We got to chat with her to learn more about her lash journey and what she loves the most about being a lash artist. We hope her journey will inspire you and, perhaps, give you a tip or two to integrate into your own lash career or business!

QUESTION #1: WHAT IS YOUR STORY?

A: I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. I come from a family of artists and beauty technicians so naturally, I grew up painting and drawing and developing a passion for beauty. I studied film and photography in University and I've always had an obsession with drawing/photographing eyes!

QUESTION 2: WHAT GOT YOU INTO LASHING?

A: When I first heard about lash extensions I thought "what is this sorcery?!". For the first time, I stepped into a home studio and received my first full set. I was so inspired by my lash artist's story that I decided to get into the industry. She had just dropped her 9-5 office job to pursue lashing full time and I realized this can be a serious career path. I've always been kind of an entrepreneur - everything from the craft to the marketing and managing, to the freedom, pushed me to take my first classic lash course a year ago and here I am!

Question 3: Do you edit or filter your photos? What’s your favorite app for pics?

A: I always edit my photos before I post them. I use Facetune and Snapseed to smoothen the skin and brighten areas. Sometimes I use Photoshop when it requires more editing.

Question #4: Do you work for someone or own your own business? How do you like it? What’s your favorite aspect of your job?

A: My goal has always been to run my own business. I love working for myself and building personal relationships with people. The craft itself is my favorite aspect of the job and seeing their faces light up when they first see their extensions!

Question #5 What advice would you give a new lash artist? Or what advice would you give yourself at that time now that you are on the other side?

A: Keep learning! Learning doesn't stop once you get your certificate. Constantly study and practice to perfect your craft. The lash industry changes every day and there's always something new to learn. Also, take lots of pictures and utilize social media! People really appreciate good quality content on Instagram.

Question#6: What is your favorite thing about being a lash artist?

A: The creative aspect is my favorite part of being a lash artist. I'm often asked how I'm able to sit for hours applying extensions. Being an artist growing up, I learned to be patient when creating something beautiful and I take pleasure in the process.

Question #7: Who are some of your inspirations?

A: I am constantly checking out @vannie.slpro and @lashesbypeng! They've truly mastered the art in lash extensions.
